Can't understand why this program isn't better known. It's just what I need for taking notes. I don't need to link notes to contacts, or my calendar, and I don't need fancy formatting in Notes (use Pocket Word for that) but I do want to be able to search quickly and easily, and add new notes from both desktop and handheld. This lets me do all that. Some slight problems understanding the help files, but most handheld users should be able to work things out. Brilliant and free.

Perfect tool. I tried several of them and none was really stable. I needed somthing which works on the iPAQ AND on my PC. Tombo is close to ideal. Other comments summarise exactly its pluses. A must have.

MUST HAVE! The very best note taking software! It allows you to take notes very quick and arrange the notes in ways you like (with real folders in \My documents or virtual folders). Powerful search function to locate any words in all notes. Notes are stored as .txt and can be view/edit on the dekstop PC (then activesync back to device). Recommand for anyone have a need to take notes. Never use the encryption but looks good enough if you have something to hide... MUST HAVE!

After trying quite a few notes-based application such as PhatNotes, etc, I settled on Tombo. It allows you very simply to specify a 'root' folder on your desktop which is kept synced with the same folder heirarchy on your Pocket PC (using ActiveSync). Tombo notes are very simply plain text files. I find plain text is the most useful and flexible format for making/keeping text notes - it's not application sensitive, allows searching and the file sizes are small. Also, you are not tied to any app for editing. Tombo includes encryption, a flexible folder tree structure and best of all, it's free. Definitely recommended as a workhorse note organiser.
