Description:
Quikwriting is by Ken Perlin; the port to the PocketPC platform was by Lisa Mackie.
Quikwriting is significantly faster and less stressful to use than Graffiti, and lets you write very quickly without ever picking your stylus up off the surface, although it has the disadvantage that you need to learn a special alphabet.
Installation:
- Download the zip file for your processor. If you do not know which processor you have, see the FAQ below.
- Unzip the downloaded file which will be called either arm.zip, sh3.zip, or mips.zip corresponding to your processor. You should have a file called quik.PROCESSOR_300.CAB where PROCESSOR is the name of the processor you are using. N.B. Do *NOT* unzip the CAB file even if it has the appearance of a zip file.
- If you use the ActiveSync partnership mode, copy the CAB file to your documents directory and sync. If you do not want to use the partnership to synchronize your files, copy the CAB file to the /Windows/Start Menu directory on your device. You can copy directly to the device from "My Computer"->Mobile Device->My Pocket PC->Windows->Start Menu.
- From either the "My Documents" directory or the start menu you should now see the CAB file--click on it to install. The CAB file will disappear after installation is complete.
- To begin using Quikwriting, open an application such as Notes and choose Quikwriting as your input method from the menu at the bottom right of your device screen.
Note:
If you already have Quikwriting installed on your device and have been running it you will probably run into an error when installing the new version. You will get a message saying that Quikwriting is already running and cannot be overwritten. You must do a soft reset on your device. Most devices have a button either on the back or on the bottom which you push with your stylus. The reset will NOT erase your data--it will stop the Quikwriting process so that you can install the new version.
