Description:
Voice Notes Recorder with MP3 encoding (NoteM) was implemented as an alternative to build-in Notes application’s voice recording feature.

It gives you approximately 5.5 compression rate (for Low bitrate option) as compared to Notes default recording mode (8-bit 11.025kHz mono PCM), with the same (or even better) perceptual quality.

Higher bitrates are also available (you can even record music).
The user interface also was implemented as similar as possible to Notes GUI.

Fortunately I've got a PPC2003 with an runing NoteM. I copied the 4 files (Notem.exe, Notem.html,notem_l.2bp, notem_s.2bp) as .zip file to my PC and from there to my new windows mobile 6.5 pda-phone and decompressed it again. It seems to be working correctly so far!!

*** [Apr 22, 2010] by JohnBush using WM Sound Recorder
Thanks for the great article. I use WM Sound Recorder to record my HTC Touch Pro phone conversation. It could also record outgoing and incoming calls automatically.

* [Apr 8, 2010] by kosmik using hp ipaq hw6965
Notem used to be my favorite mp3 recorder until it stopped working properly on windows mobile devices. It has not been updated since a long time too. I found a good mp3 recorder/player called Sound Explorer here: http://vitotechnology.com/soundexplorer.html. See if you like it.

** [Dec 22, 2009] by Steve using HERM100
Installed on my Pocket PC with windows mobile 6.1 and tested by attempting to record voice, the program immediately hangs without exiting, this happens every single time without fail and worse still the application does appear as a process in the Task Manager and you cannot therefore kill it, I had to reset my phone to kill it off and then I uninstalled it immediately.

*** [Sep 22, 2009] by Thomas using HP iPaq 212
I believe this may be good on older platforms but on the WM6 device when recording to memory card it kept corrupting the file system. Now looking for an alternative

* [Aug 22, 2009] by Dave using HTC Touch 3G
Initially it works fine then it kept hanging on my HTC Touch 3G using VM6. Any solution?

***** [Aug 15, 2009] by bob using HTC raphael (AT&T Fuze)
Worked perfectly without a hitch. Used this app for years on my old PDA.

***** [Mar 19, 2009] by John P using HTC TyTn II
Excellent - works perfectly on WM6.1.

* [Dec 16, 2008] by Quide using HTC TyTN
Cannot get it to work on the HTC TyTN. At the time of the installation, I got the error message "Cannot create shortcut". Also, I'm not able to locate or start the program, even though it was "correctly installed".

**** [Mar 31, 2008] by LM using LG KS20
Works fine under WM6 on an LG KS20, even installed to storage card. I've used this program for years on my O2 XDAIIi and am glad I can keep using it on a new device!

**** [Mar 18, 2008] by Rustam using ipaq hw6515
Great program! Thanks! How can I invoke this program instead of built-in recorder from the PHONE application? (There is a Notes button, but it starts the standard notes)

* [Jan 26, 2008] by Anton using Dell Axim x50v
Recorded noise instead of my paid French lesson! Very expensive for 'freeware' :(

***** [Dec 21, 2007] by Jae Park using O2 Xda IIs
The author, Alexander, deserves to have his name in the program list of my PDA phone forever. This free ware is outstanding, from its easy and perfect installation to the last feature at work. 5 stars. Thanks Alex!

**** [Aug 20, 2007] by Martin S using Orange C600 smartphone
This app does NOT install on a Windows Mobile 5 smartphone (the Orange C600 made by HTC). It wasn't intended for that; what a shame.

* [Aug 1, 2007] by KB using Cingular 8525 Hermes Device
Hangs after pressing "record" ...

***** [Jun 4, 2007] by Daan using Mio p550
Thanx a lot! I was looking for a tool like that, it works verry verry great.

***** [Mar 14, 2007] by Cristian T. Moecke using Dell Axim X51V (WM5)
Realy good! I was looking for something just like this software... And works very fin on my WM5 powered Axim!

**** [Aug 25, 2006] by Simon using HP 3715x (PPC2003)
Great! With bigger buttons (to be usable by finger) it would be perfect!!

***** [Jun 7, 2006] by Yanuar using iPAQ2210, XDAIIs
EXCELLENT - perhaps I couldn't have finished my research which involved interviewing 40+ people without this. I used my handheld as audio recorder like the old-fashioned tape recorder. Just one tap and .. VOILA ..!! I get clear recordings .. and the best .. it is in MP3 that I can directly analyse or send to my transcriber .. :-) Many thanks to the author of this program!

**** [Mar 22, 2006] by Jimmy using Dopod 818pro
Works okay on Dopod 818pro ... but some functionlity is missing.

**** [Nov 21, 2005] by atisha using axim x51v WM5
I am so thrilled that it works on Window Mobile 5 operating system - not many software does since WM5 is still new. Used it before on HP1940, it can crash at times on it. But WM5 seems to be more fitted to it -perhaps this new pda has more horsepower.

***** [Nov 14, 2005] by Salehin using Axim X50 (512MHz)
Truely a great software. This one for recording and Caligrapher for handnotes recognition are the most importan softwares for any PPC. I can't thank enough the programmer for this excellent software. I hope in the future version, the programmer will kindly add the 'PAUSE' option during recording. This will certainly add more versatality to this great software.

***** [Oct 24, 2005] by Ayman using i-mate Jam
Really great software, the recordings are clear and niiice, though there's some problem with changing the settings, but after some trials it worsks... really it's a must have program on any PocketPC.

***** [Oct 17, 2005] by Tom using Axim X50
Waaayyy better than the default program for recording band practices... thank you to the author!

***** [Oct 12, 2005] by Fabri using 6315
It is excellent. Just one problem: with mine 6315 when I talk on the phone with bluetooth headset it does not record nothing. Somebody had same problem ?

***** [Sep 14, 2005] by Al Muzac using ipaq 2210
Simply the BEST audio recorder available for PPC. A staightforward and simple UI together with a competent MP3 compression rate. No point in looking for anything else.

***** [Sep 5, 2005] by Brian Hwang using ipaq hx2115
For all you music majors out there. This is AWESOME!! The sound quality was impeccable at highest quality *128, It took me awhile to find the right screen to adjust the prefferences but it was there. Was considering buying minidisc and mic for 300 bucks until i found this software.

***** [Aug 31, 2005] by Stuart Ngo using Pocket PC 2002
This is an essential app for any pocket PC. Its so good that I intend pay for this program but I can't contact the author.

**** [Aug 12, 2005] by David Maslen using ipaq 3970
Seems to work quite well. I haven't been able to configure the buttons correctly. I wanted the defult behaviour too be identical to the recorder, ie hold button5 to record then release it to stop. What I have is press button 5 to start, then press button 1 to stop. I intend to use it to record and e-mail attachments, via GPRS so the size of the recording is critical. Thanks for making this freeware.

***** [May 6, 2005] by Jimmy Lee using iPaq 4150
One bug: change from NoteM to WMPlayer will change the volume setting. Excellent program!

***** [Mar 4, 2005] by J using ipaq 3850
Used this for ages, way better than default wav recorder.. not my preffered player tho. Did a reinstall and had some of the same problems mentioned, but then found I'd installed the wrong CE version. Got the correct version and back in business! Keeps my defaults fine too.

*** [Feb 7, 2005] by IAN using IPAQ 3870
Didn't really get to use it so can't comment much on functionality in that respect. However, upon deleting it from PPC (which had to be done manually as the uninstall program hung the PPC every time)it left an entry some where that caused an error message to display every time the PPC was started. Seriously annoying. I wouldn't recommend loading this program unless you are DEFINITELY going to keep it on your PPC - DO NOT load for eval purposes!

** [Jan 19, 2005] by Tony using Dell Axim X30
Great idea, but poorly executed. If you have a utility that exits your open applications (and everyone should), it doesn't save any of your options. I want to record to my storage card, but it always defaults to my documents, and it sets the bit rate to low.

***** [Nov 19, 2004] by Grant using HP iPAQ hx4700
Works great. Storage space much smaller than default recorder. My wish list is a control that I could include in a custom app to record MP3 instead of the WAV I get with the core.dll libraries... that would be awesome.

**** [Nov 5, 2004] by Thomas using QTEK 2020
GOOD ;-) I have Problems with Volume and PowerManagment.

***** [Oct 22, 2004] by neuralnet using HP IPaq h2210
This software is brilliant. It works flawlessly on my IPaq. The HQ compression runs at 128kbps and the MP3 is written directly to my CF memory card. I thoroughly recommend this & would like to say a big thanks to the author :) p.s. Make sure you get the right version for your PPC. If you install the PPC2002 version on your PPC2003 PDA the prog will hang after you stop recording.

***** [Oct 6, 2004] by Ismet using Toshiba e740
This program is very good. However, When I try to record a long lecture into the SD card, the speech is distorded (some parts are lost and it sounds like the speech is fast), probably because of low transfer rate into SD card. I don't have the problem if I use the main memory. I tried other programs that are not free, and I found that this program is better than others.

**** [Sep 13, 2004] by Nawaz using IPAQ 3630
Its awesome except when I save to storage card it records really fast even when I try to playback in other programs it is running too fast. My storage card is brand new and everything else works.

***** [Sep 10, 2004] by Damir using Axim X5 PC2002
PRO: Fantastic, usable, easy, good sounding. CON: Hang-up at medium and high rates!

***** [Aug 27, 2004] by YK Tan using O2 XDAII
Definitely a must for those who wants to store more voice recording using PDA. So far only bug I experienced is that the PDA volume is reset to zero after playing any audio file using the program.

***** [Aug 25, 2004] by Mike Welch using Ipaq 1910
This PocketPC freeware junkie says, "stick this in your ARM man." :) Seriously, this has replaced the default recorder for me. You can save to flash card, and the size difference between mp3 and the default uncompressed WAV output of the voice recorder applet borders on mystical. Recommended. Plus, it also plays MP3s too!

**** [Aug 16, 2004] by Frank using PocketPC
If only one could influence the names the software gives to recordings. "Record1" as a filename is of no use, when after transfer to your PC all information as to date and time the record was made is lost. I'd like the software to use timestamps as filenames. Then one could really use one's hardware as a dictation device.

**** [Aug 9, 2004] by Daniel using Dell Axim X3
This great that you can record mp3. But when I record a one time I must restart application for every time I record a note.

** [Jul 21, 2004] by Stefan using XDA II
Cannot get it to work on the XDA II. At the time of the installation, I got the error message on the XDA "Cannot create shortcut". Also, I'm not able to locate or start the program on the XDA, even though the XDA says it is installed.

***** [May 10, 2004] by Derek using Axim X5 300MHz PPC2002
This MP3 recorder is working great for me. I never experience any freezing problem. I am very impressed with the recording quality, but I think the mic on the Axim is of very good quality too.

***** [May 5, 2004] by Erik using HP 2215
This is an excellent program! I use it all the time for recording conferences, talks, etc. Nice, small, managable mp3 files. With a 256MB SD card you can get at least 35 hrs. I have noticed that when the battery runs really low, it acts weird, but so does the whole PPC.

***** [Apr 28, 2004] by aqeela using Dell Axim X5 XScale 300MHz
Initially I was having the problem where the app froze when i tried stopping, but, there's an update for Pocket PC 2003! There's also a user manual there. I love this software.

*** [Mar 1, 2004] by Klaus using XDA II
After installing the software can't create a shortcut. After this there is an error that my pda can't find /windows/notemsvr.exe! This error appears at any time, I wake up my pda, ist blocks phoneing. And the authors email is invalid an the website disabled. As good the program is, so bad is support. And the worst thing is, that I try to get away this error since one week! :-(

* [Feb 20, 2004] by Brandi using iPaq 2215
I too am having this problem; only after freezing in record mode, now the program won't even open. Is there a better voice program?

** [Feb 18, 2004] by James using HP ipaq 2210
It keeps freezing after play or record in pocket pc 2003. Does anyone have this problem?

***** [Dec 26, 2003] by Venkatesh R using Toshiba e335
Great software, I use to take voice notes of my team meetings. I use it to record an hour meeting into a 6 MB file.

***** [Nov 14, 2003] by Xinhful using IPAQ 3630
This is a great software, its the only one that is free which is better then Resco MP3 voice recorder... get it and enjoy.... the developer is a bloody hero!

**** [Nov 10, 2003] by Derek using Axim X5
This is just what I wanted. A easy to use MP3 voice recorder. I would be nice if it offers more flexible bitrate control.
