SuperDoku v1.1

Size: 220 KB

  • Pocket PC

Description:
The best free Pocket PC SuDoku game has gotten even better! Includes 11 different skins!

SuperDoku is a version of SuDoku for the Pocket PC that uses a graphical interface instead of just numbers in squares. This means you can play using colored gems, Egyptian symbols, Hebrew letters, Signs of the Zodiac, or pretty much any thing else (including, of course, numbers in squares).

If you don't know how to play, you can find instructions here and some pretty cool strategies here.

Features:

  • 8 different difficulty levels.
It does not just load grids from files. It randomly generates them each time so you'll never run out!
  • Beat lower difficulty levels to earn higher difficulty levels.
Or email the author if you want a cheat code.
  • Solves entered-in puzzles.
Using the "Burn Grid as New Game" tool.
  • Load and Save functions.
You can save up to 5 SuDokus to work on later. Comes with auto-save options.
  • Pencil Marks.
Little numbers in the corners of the squares that some people like to use to remind them of what can go where.
  • Crayon Marks.
You can draw notes right onto the screen in 4 different colors, and 3 different thicknesses. As far as I know, SuperDoku is the only program that lets you do this.
  • Hints.
Two kinds, spoiler and non-spoiler. It can show you the location of a square that can be narrowed down to one option, or it can fill in the square for you. If you use hints, though, you won't earn higher difficulty levels.
  • Reveal Mistakes.
Lets you know if you're on the right track by blinking incorrect squares. If any mistakes are revealed, you won't earn higher difficulty levels. You are not penalized if no mistakes are revealed.
  • Bold Selected.
This makes it really easy to focus on a certain number by "bolding" every square already containing that number. If you've ever done a paper SuDoku, you've found yourself wishing they had this option.
  • Bold Original Game.
Makes it easy to see which squares you can edit and which you can not.
  • Skinnable Interface.
The game comes with a few nice skins, and I'll upload new ones here periodically. Also, it's really easy to make your own skins and send them in so other people can download them.
  • And the #1 Feature: IT'S COMPLETELY FREE!
Of course, donations are always gladly accepted!
Note:
The author is a college student, so of course, donations are always gladly accepted! Find out how to donate on the author's site.

Update Description:
v1.1:
- Contains numerous fixes. Most notably, the error with the pencil/eraser/crayon icons not showing up is finally fixed!
- You are no longer penalized for using Reveal Mistakes if no mistakes are revealed.
- A new skin has been added to this version.

The interface is simplistic and wonderful. I love the features. My only complaint is that I have run into several puzzles with multiple solutions in difficult, hard and harder.

I've had this installed for about a year. It is a splendid game, with enormous flexibility by the user. The transitions through the levels is clearly apparent. I, too, have reached the upper limit and found numerous solutions for a game -very curious. If I'd ask for anything, it would be a timer that notes 'play time'. Aside from that, I now have a permanent toilet seat ring around my butt from playing it while in the 'study'.

I love this program. This is my first SuDoKu game, so I can only comment so much but what i've seen is great. I like the pencial marks. But for me the great feature is the skinability. Dom, if the number are a bit hard to see you can easily make your own skin to improve the readability.

Have tried many SuDoKu app's and finally stuck with this one. You can find feature-laden SuDoKu games anywhere, but this one beats them because the Plain Yellow color-scheme/skin simply makes play productive (other skins, in other games and in this one as well, limit ease of viewing). My only wish is that given numbers be made more recognizable (maybe diff background? Diff font color doesn't help since Tap-in numbers change color). Saving up to 5 games is sweet! As far as unsolve-ables or more than one solutions are concerned, yes there are some (I've unlocked all levels), but it's still fun.

PeterSm: You've probably already realized this, but you earn the higher levels by beating the easier ones. Email me if you want the cheat code that will unlock all the levels.

Excellent programme, however how do you change levels, all my options are greyed out???

This is a fantastic program. Thanks to Mike for developing and distributing it for free. I noted one small problem on my PDA. The pencil and eraser icons do not appear but if I click on the spaces where they should be, white squares appear and I could use the functions. I nearly remove your program because I thought the pencil marks do not work.

Nice application. I found a multiple solution puzzle on level Hard. I don't remember the starting position, but the 'x's below indicate either 2 or 3.

I suggest a few new options:
1) prevent the entry of a number that conflicts with an existing entry (e.g. in the same row, column, or local grid)
2) prevent the entry of a pencil mark that conflicts with an existing entry
3) provide automatic penciling
4) if any of the above options are used, then it is treated as a hint or 'show mistakes' such that it prohibits level advancement.

The problem with multiple solutions has been fixed in the newest version (still .99 as of apr 28, 2006). The hardest levels always have multiple solutions because some people like the extra challenge. Stick to the 'harder' level if you want only unique solutions. The code has been fixed, now, to account for those multiple solutions, so if you enter in any correct solution, you will get credit. To retain your current maximum level, reinstall the program without uninstalling the previous version. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Nice program, however I've noticed that at the higher levels (Difficult/Hard and up) I ran into the problem where there wasn't a unique solution. Also at the highest difficulty I've been given unsolvable ones. For example:
4xxx5xx6x
2x39xxxxx
57xxx8x2x
xx58x27xx
xx2xxxxxx
7xx5x3xxx
6xxx9xxxx
x2x4xxx71
xxx3x1x4x

Awesome! One of the best Sudoku games for PPC. Keep your good work!

***** [Apr 26, 2006] by Mike Miller using Viewsonic V36
IMPORTANT - The problem with the program not recognizing that you've completed certain levels has been fixed! Also, 3 new skins from my website (people.msoe.edu/~millermj) have been included. Please re-install the program. Thanks for all your help!

Love this game! I got a used PPC from a friend and it was missing some needed Microsoft software and Mike was so prompt and helpful getting it resolved. The game is so fun, I'm a new addict!!

Software runs fine, but I experience the same problems. I solved the mild one but after turning my device off and on again I am still stuck at mild. There is definitly something going wrong. Beside that, this is really a nice piece of software. Keep on.

*** [Apr 21, 2006] by Lynx using Toshiba e355
Even without hints or anything else to interfere with upgrading levels, I find that I am not being allowed to upgrade levels. And the save feature still has issues it seems as sometimes the game I have set to save periodically doesn't save when it's scheduled to. I don't think you should be penalized either for sketching in what may go where, but obviously for now at least, you are. Some changes do need to be made, and I await the next version, should there be one.
