Description:
Skyfire brings the PC internet experience to your mobile. Watch videos on YouTube or Hulu, connect with your friends on Myspace or Facebook, shop on Amazon, or listen to music. If you can experience it on your computer, you now can do it with Skyfire on the go. Skyfire is fast, easy to use and available for free for many smart phone models.

What is Skyfire?
Skyfire is a free, downloadable mobile web browser that allows you to experience the internet on your phone exactly like on your PC. Now, you can use the full web from your mobile phone with unprecedented speed and simplicity – without the typical restrictions and limitations that current ‘mobile web’ efforts offer. It’s “The Web”, not some mobile web.

A brand new browsing experience.

  • Mobile browsing exactly like your PC.
With Skyfire on your phone you can for the first time ever shop, watch web video, listen to web music and stay connected on your social network -- just as you would on your PC. We're talking about full-featured PC versions of your favorite websites. Skyfire gives you speedy page loads, full audio, images and video. From Myspace, Facebook, YouTube to Hulu - it's the full web experienced on your phone.
  • The real web, served-up right.
Unlike other mobile browsers, Skyfire supports the desktop version of Adobe Flash applications so sites, including those that serve-up video and music, are rendered exactly as you would expect - just like your PC. You will instantly recognize the content, be familiar with the page layout -- which is not true for most mobile browsing experiences. We support all that's good about today's web - not just Flash, but also Silverlight, Ajax, QuickTime and more. And even better: Skyfire evolves with the newest capabilities without you having to do anything.
  • Go anywhere, see anything.
Not only do we deliver video and audio, we also deliver everything else you routinely do on the web. Get maps, check sport scores, view weather forecasts, read the news, check flights, and stay active on your favorite social networks. From the Top 10 of websites all the way down to the obscurest of pages - you'll do it all from your mobile phone just like you do on your PC.
  • Blazing fast.
Skyfire is faster than any mobile web browser you've ever used. You'll load web pages as fast as your PC and eliminate the long delays and error messages you get with other mobile browsers. Don't take our word for it, check out this bake-off by Laptop Magazine and see how we handily outclassed the iPhone 3G.
  • Easy to use.
It's easy to experience the PC web on your phone with Skyfire's clickable content and intuitive navigation. We know it's a small screen and that's why we made navigating intuitive with full screen, thumbnails and adaptable zooming modes. You simply and quickly get to exactly where you want to be on a page - navigating at speeds that make the experience enjoyable.
  • Quick content and simple search.
All the places you routinely visit are a click away. We have handy links to popular websites on the start page. Your bookmarks and your browsing history is just a click away. Better yet, you can even bookmark your specific view (zoom level, position) of content on a web page to get exactly to the right place in one click.

We made search simple. Use our nifty SuperBar to perform a search or enter a URL from a single field. We even suggest the most commonly used search keywords as you type. Plus the search results are from Google and Yahoo and are presented in easy to read tabs for each category: web, images, and videos, and maps. Simple and it's all a click away.

  • Plenty of handy features.
We're always adding new features as we roll out our beta releases. Recently, we made it easy to share and easy to find mobile sites.

Discover something on the web that you want to share? Now you can send it to your friends from Skyfire via a text message. We even shorten the URL to easily fit into a single SMS text message with room to spare for your own words.

Don't like the big web page on your small screen? Want to go to the mobile site instead? If we find a mobile version of the same site, Skyfire lets you know - then you decide if you want the mobile or full website. Simply look for a 'Mobile Version' link at the top left of a page. Skyfire even renders iPhone specific web sites nicely.

  • On the phone you own - and free!
You can load Skyfire on your existing Windows Mobile (version 5 or 6) or newer Symbian Series 60 phones in a few steps. In a matter of minutes, you can install it either over the air or via your PC. It's free - what more can we say. No need to buy an expensive new phone and get locked into a new contract just because you want a better mobile internet experience.

For Windows Mobile 5.0 / WM6 Smartphone users, please download this software here (648 KB) or its mirror here.

Update Description:
v1.5:
What's new in this release?
- Full VGA support: Skyfire now provides native support for the high resolution VGA and wVGA screens as available on many newer Windows Mobile phones. Web pages now render sharp and crisp with full fidelity.
- Finger friendly UI: A new, intuitive, and finger friendly UI for high resolution phones provides an easier browsing experience.
- Smooth Scrolling: Kinetic scrolling has been added to Skyfire. Pan or flick the screen to move in any direction smoothly.
- Full screen mode: For touch screens, browse in full screen mode with no UI elements on the screen for maximum page visibility.

Enhancements:
- Auto-move text entry box when the (virtual keyboard) is used: Assures that a text entry box moves into view in case the virtual (on-screen) keyboard covers it.
- Updated Flash and Silverlight: Updated both to the newest version available.
- Updated Start Page: Optimized for high resolution devices.
- Performance: Upgraded both client and server for faster and more responsive browsing.

v1.1.0.13052:
What's new in 1.1?
- Improved page load times. For sites that take a long time to load, we updated our algorithm to bring you the content much quicker.
- Improved scrolling and zooming on Symbian. This is a much faster and smoother experience now.
- Improved reconnect. Skyfire will show clearly when you can start interacting with the web page in case it previously timed out and disconnected (to save battery life).
- WML support. If you are browsing to mobile sites that use the old mobile WML markup, you can now view the content.
- Improved mobile website support. Mobile.* websites are now rendered automatically as mobile with the exception of mobile.yahoo.com since it is a PC site.
- Page up/down navigation via short-key: You can use now ‘2’ and ‘8’ to easily navigate one page up or down. Great for reading articles. Now the short-key for invoking the Superbar is ‘*’. Please note that on some devices with a non-standard keyboard layout, short-keys may behave differently since this is phone specific.
- Updated Plug-ins: For Flash, Silverlight and QuickTime we have the newest versions to give you more compatibility with more sites.

Fixes in this release:
- Skyfire quits on startup on Windows Mobile 6.5 devices: It affected a limited number of 6.0 and 6.1 devices as well. (Fixed Issue 7369)
- Multi-line text entry behavior on Symbian: This was an issue when you exited text entry mode with predictive text on, or used the navigation keys. (Fixed Issues 7149 & 7112)
- Superbar state on Symbian: Cancel button did not always exit from Superbar. (Fixed Issue 7156)
- Samsung Propel and Jack (AT&T): Could not uninstall Skyfire if the SIM card was missing. Fixed.

Known issues in this release:
- Short-keys inconsistent on non-standard keyboard. On some keyboard layouts (half-qwerty, dual keyboards), the short-keys do not work as expected. (Issue 7498, 7408, 7581)

v1.0.0.12113:
What's new in this 1.0 update?
- Reduced Memory footprint. We reduced the memory footprint of Skyfire for both Symbian and Windows Mobile devices. This should help folks reporting issues on memory constrained devices.

Fixes in this release:
- History is presented in the proper order.
- Cookies in the UK data center are handled more reliably.
- Sharing links via SMS are handled more reliably.
- Reconnect correctly loads the last page in history plus we’ve improved reliability.
- Site specific issues have been resolved for Rooftopcommedy.com and thefind.com.
- Zoom buttons behave properly and disappear after a couple of seconds.
- Default browser setting works more consistently.
- Text entry on Symbian has been improved with one caveat below.

Known issues in this release:
- Multi-line text entry on Symbian: Skyfire might exit the text entry mode when the user is choosing a word from the predictive text list. Plus, using the down key might NOT get you out of text entry mode. If this happens, use enter or center OK. Issues 7149 & 7112.
- Superbar state on Symbian: sometimes when you enter into the superbar with the cursor, existing the Superbar via the ‘cancel’ option will navigate to the previous page. Issue 7158.
- Change connection on Symbian: Choosing the search WLAN option might not change the WLAN connection. Issue 6633.
- Samsung Jack (AT&T): Because of a security policy on this device, it will not allow uninstall of Skyfire if there is not SIM card in the phone. Simply insert a SIM card.

v1.0 (27-05-2009):
- Thumbnail interaction. Now you can click on links immediately after the page loads without having to zoom in. This enhancement is especially helpful for high resolution phones, and for familiar sites where you know right away where you want to click. It makes getting to the content you want on the page simpler, quicker and more efficient.
- Improved zoom. Double-tap or double-click to zoom over any element, including links, images or videos. The zoom interaction is smoother and more responsive as well. Best of all: when you zoom in you will get readable text instantly.
- Enhanced navigation. When you navigate back or forward, you return to the last viewport (e.g. zoom level and portion of the page). This eliminates the need to pan and zoom into the section you were viewing on the previous page. Skyfire remembers the viewport even when you select a page from your history. We have also added shortcut keys, (9) for forward and (7) for backward navigation.
- Improved page handling. Enhancements have been made especially for AJAX-intensive sites such as Facebook and Gmail. When larger parts of the page get updated, the client will more quickly and accurately reflect this. In addition, now, we support full-width iFrames in Skyfire.
- Fast start. We changed both the sequence and behavior of the Skyfire launch so you get started as quickly as possible. You can type a search or URL in the Superbar while Skyfire is connecting in the background. You can put Skyfire to work before the start page is even loaded. Plus, we’ve improved connection performance.
- Reconnect to last state. When you leave Skyfire in the background Skyfire disconnects to preserve battery life. When you come back to Skyfire (after minutes, hours, days), it will reload the same page to the same zoom level and focus. You can continue right where you left off. When you exit and start again, Skyfire you will always land on the start page.
- Connection helper. There is a new mechanism to detect when connections cannot be established to Skyfire servers. If this is due to a network configuration (common in GSM land), then we provide suggestions to help out. This is especially useful if you are with a carrier/data plan that places restrictions on certain APN configurations, which interferes with Skyfire.
- Enhanced search results. Google results now include video, news articles, local results all blended on a single results page and ordered by relevance. Vertical search categories are still available.
- Improved RSS feed search. Find your favorite custom RSS feeds through the improved Add-Feed feature, found under the Customize menu on the start page. Search by site domain, feed URL, or even topical keywords.
- Easier sharing of RSS items from start page. We’ve exposed a simple “Share this article” link below each RSS story displayed on your start page to make it easier to share interesting items to your Twitter and Facebook.
- Remember last connection (Symbian only). Skyfire can now remember the last connection for you, so you will not have to choose a connection every single time. In addition, if you want to change the connection type while you are in Skyfire you can do so.

v0.9 (12-02-2009):
- We're Going Social: Our start page experience is brand spanking new and includes feeds, Facebook and Twitter integration. Catch up with news and your friends postings, easily share info and make yourself heard with few clicks.
- Improved Text Readability: We implemented a great solution to improve the readability of large text areas (think blogs and news articles) on small screens. We automatically adapt the font size for large articles in a way that once you zoom into the article you will be able to read it without the need for horizontal scroll. Use our contextual zoom function to fit the article to your screen width and it will make a pleasant reading experience. With this introduction we retired our previous SmartFit solution.
- Widescreen screen support: Many recent Windows Mobile devices including the Samsung i900 Omnia or the Sony Ericsson Experia X1 now use a widescreen format. Skyfire 0.9 Beta fully supports the widescreen format. On Symbian, we now support the 352x416 resolution such as the Nokia N80.
- Improved Superbar: When you select one of the auto-suggest entries you will immediately get more refined suggestions (instead of launching the search right away). Handy to search for the exact term that you are looking for.
- Download Media: Now you can see/listen to media that is accessible in Skyfire, and download it to your phone as well. Found an audio file? Listen to it in Skyfire ˇV you like it? Download it to your phone. Obviously this works only for freely accessible files. For Windows Mobile, we even launch the media player for formats such as Windows Media Streaming audio. Now you can stream radio in the background while continuing to browse.
- Updated page rendering: We updated our algorithm to improve the consistency of the information shown. In addition we improved the zoom action, which provides a quicker response.
- Updated Plug-ins: Including Flash 10, Silverlight 2.0 final and newest Quicktime version.
- Wide Screen VGA support: Now we support all screen resolutions that are popular on Windows Mobile, including: 240x240, 320x320, 320x240 (QVGA),400x240 (WQVGA), 640x480 (VGA), 800x480 (WVGA). Thus new and popular devices such as the Samsung i900 Omnia or the Sony Ericsson Experia X1 are supported.
- Launch URL's from Email: Fixed the issue where long URL's or encoded URL's didn't open correctly. If you have not already done so, please set Skyfire as your default browser (see Menu l Settings). Next time you want to click through a long URL in an email, it's simply a click.

v0.85 (21-11-2008):
- Simple Download: This is big for us and we hope for you as well. Now, there is NO requirement anymore to register in order to download, access, and use Skyfire. With this release, downloading is as simple as pointing your existing mobile browser to http://get.skyfire.com. We detect the device and provide the installer for your phone.
- Optional Registration: Once downloaded and installed, you can use Skyfire right away. Browse away, create bookmarks, and check your history. Everything will work.
Why create an account? So you can retain Bookmarks and History in case you lose your phone or have to switch phones. Furthermore you can post and participate in the Skyfire user forums.
Already have an account? You can still access your existing account by simply logging in on your device. Or, create a new account. Or, migrate your account between phones. It’s now all done from your phone on the Skyfire start page.
- New UK Data Center: We are looking forward to providing better service for our UK based users and are currently building out a new data center. If you are in the UK you should automatically connect to the new data center and experience better performance. If you are not based in UK, then you will automatically connect to the US data center. Please bear with us as we work out some of the kinks – especially with account migration.
- Overall Improvements: Client and Server robustness, streaming performance, recovering from lost connections.
- Improved rendering of mobile pages: We better detect and render more mobile pages. The list continues to expand.
- Updated Skyfire User Portal: We continue to evolve our user portal and start page. Although some of it was already visible before 0.8.5, it is worth mentioning:
o Google Search & Search Results: It's the best and the most used.
o Updated weather widget: Now supports Canada and UK postal codes, in addition to US.
o Region specific start page: Custom feeds and pre-populated bookmarks for US and UK.
- Standard VGA support: We are excited to now provide VGA support for the number of new devices that recently entered the market, including the HTC Touch Diamond, Diamond Pro, HTC/ATT Fuze. Please note that we support Standard VGA support (e.g. 640x480). Widescreen WVGA (e.g. 800x480 etc) is NOT supported yet.

This software must be sponsored by telecommunication company. This is the first apps I come across automatically to try all available settings to connect to internet despite my default one does not connect to internet via the mobile network, unless I have WiFi turned on already. All other apps would only give me error of no connection.

This is ridiculous! a web browser that cannot open local html file? Plus this whole 'proxy caching' technology. FAIL!

This's stupid application. It didn't work. It checked acquiring data connection, check flight mode, acquiring data connection, check flight mode, acquiring data connection, check flight mode, ...and so on... I use Irish & Opera, they work perfectly..

* [Feb 17, 2009] by Luke using Samsung SGH-i900
Please note that Skyfire, as Opera mini, uses their own proxy servers for caching, rendering and transcoding of the web content. Such borwsers are threat to user's privacy and extremely dangerous for financial transactions and private data in my opinion.

This is a truly amazing product! Not only does is it the first mobile browser that actually renders EVER web page correctly (including ALL dhtml, flash etc). More importantly it is the only browser that does not drain your memory. The combination of these features makes this the only web 2.0 mobile browser worth using. This said there are problems with the functionality. You can not upload files for example! This has to be addressed, almost all business and social apps use this feature extensively. Anyway, great job! Keep doin your magic and there won't be any stopping SkyFire :)

***** [Feb 17, 2009] by luis using att 8525
it isn't perfect there are some glitches and problems like it acknowledges when abutton is pressed but it doesn't react until after a click or 2. but I still give it 5 stars because how awesome is it to actually watch full length movies and shows from hulu youtube and megavideo? I phone can't do that. this browser would be perfect if it had tabs and allowed for customizable home page buttons and allowed to edit the bookmark tabs.

Wow... this program is outstanding. I can't begin to tell you how much I love it. It uses a desktop internet explorer, so now you can stay on youtube to watch their vids! Also you can play all those awsome lil' flash games on you phone. This program is great. If I had money id donate it to you guys who made this. 5 stars *****
